LAWRENCE DAVIS
Lawrence Davis is an Emmy-winning fashion and entertainment hair stylist whose career is one of considerable accomplishment. His technical skill and eye for texture and detail, for which he has achieved widespread recognition, have firmly established his reputation as an industry leader. His talent and expertise can be seen in various award-winning films, television, Broadway shows, editorial pieces, ad campaigns, and on the red carpet. Lawrence’s most recent roles include serving as the hair department head on the upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect, Amazons upcoming limited series, Underground Railroad, as well as HBO’s critically acclaimed limited series, Watchmen.
Other recent film credits for Lawrence include The Front Runner, starring Hugh Jackman and J.K. Simmons, Mudbound, which was nominated for four Oscars, and earned Lawrence a Hair and Makeup Stylists Guild Award nomination, and Best Picture winner Green Book, for which Lawrence served as the personal hairstylist to Mahershala Ali. After Mahershala was in Lawrence’s chair again for his leading role in last year’s limited series, True Detective, Lawrence secured a fourth Emmy nomination for his outstanding hair design.
In 2017, he took home a Primetime Emmy Award for his work on Hairspray Live! for outstanding hairstyling for a special. Additionally, Lawrence holds a Daytime Emmy for outstanding hairstyling for daytime television from his work on The Tyra Banks Show. Other top TV shows he has styled for include Bessie, which Lawrence was also Emmy-nominated for, America’s Next Top Model, America’s Got Talent, and So You Think You Can Dance
Some of the most notable beauties in fashion and entertainment such as, Jennifer Hudson and Tyra Banks rely upon Lawrence to style their recognizable tresses. He has achieved national press exposure in several major magazines including Elle, Style, Glamour, People and Essence. Lawrence has also had the pleasure of working with photographers and directors such as Barry Jenkins, Guiliano Bekor, Dee Reese’s, Derek Blanks and Andrew MacPherson.
Answering to the demand of the entertainment industry has given Lawrence myriad opportunities to travel the globe and meet some of the most reputable talents in the industry. Hailing from Baltimore, Lawrence hit the entertainment scene in July of 2001, and hit it hard. After styling hair for 11 years in his hometown, he sold it all, moved to California, and never looked back. Making people look and feel beautiful is what makes Lawrence feel good and what he loves.
